Genuine Testimonials for Sheila Joynes Teaches Music Theory

It's quite unusual for people to write to say how much they like a product. We are particularly pleased therefore, that so many people who have benefitted from using Sheila's videos have taken the trouble to do just that.

These comments are from real customers who have bought and followed Sheila's Music Theory lessons. Every one is 100% genuine, completely un-requested and unaltered (apart from correcting the odd typo).  No incentive or payment of any kind was given in return for these wonderful comments and we thank everyone who has taken the time to write to us.

I am using your videos for review ( I already took Level 5 Exam and passed, scoring over 90%) and I had so many "aha" experiences.  Things I didn't understand even after the exam, or I thought I did and your lessons made it all click. I am sure there are thousands of others out there like me and we ALL thank you. You made a great contribution to the Musical Community, because there is NO other such course on the entire Internet. There are some fine things out there but nothing like this and at such a low price too. In my opinion you are charging way under the real value.

Thank you very much, Sheila!  My daughter (12) is taking the theory exam and I essentially help her prepare (she just completed Level 4 on the piano with a teacher).  Your videos were a great help last year with Level 3 and are again this year with Level 4 theory.  While I am a traditional musician I forget my theory, and so your videos are a great resource and a perfect complement to me following up on them helping her as she works through exercises and old exams.  Of course, I am re-learning myself along the way.  Thank you!

"Hello Sheila, I have found your videos to be easy to follow and great to be able to rewind and listen as many times as necessary, I am currently going through Level 1 Module 1-5 but should be moving on to Level  2 soon.  I am learning from Greece so it was great to be able to find this facility through the internet and not worry about delays with a post service!  I hope to do my Theory exam in the UK at some point.  Thank you for your help, in getting through!  Hopefully!"

My 16 year old is cramming levels 1-3 for an exam to get into music college, and was struggling quite a bit. I downloaded your lessons which he was very sceptical about, but he eventually insisted on watching every second even when I told him to skip some. He found a lot of the explanations much better than his 'wee red book'. He's finished them all now and will do the exam practice before he goes for the exam tomorrow.   (MF's son got into Music College!)

"I just wanted to say how useful these videos are for me as a parent of two young boys who are doing music.  I have had no exposure to music theory before, but the videos are brilliant at keeping them engaged.  I use them to supplement their music theory classes and since we watch the videos together, it's very helpful to them to be able to try to articulate the concepts to me."

". . . I said it once and I wont stop saying this. Your lessons are WONDERFUL and FANTASTIC.  I am 45 Years old, am not at all a stranger to music theory since I am an intermediate violin student and beginning guitar player. Since I want to excel, I know that I can take grade 5, but I wanted to be sure so, I downloaded your lessons and thank goodness I did . . ."

". . . I'm very impressed indeed. Fabulous teachings, easy to watch and to listen to. I have painstakingly searched through many a book, websites, even had tutoring  and nothing compares to this. It really works for me. Great stuff Sheila and team, hats off to you all and a big thank you , as I am starting my World Music BA Honours Degree this September and wanted to brush up on theory etc within a very short time space. This is just the best."

We also received the following wonderful letter . . .

You can image how delighted Sheila and Stephen were to receive the following this; it arrived out of the blue and affected both of us deeply.  Thank you so much 'EVM' for writing as you did.  This is exactly the sort of thing that makes all our hard work worthwhile.

Dear Sheila,

A while back I ordered your online teaching tutorials for my daughter.  She is currently dealing with Grad 5 and Grade 6 Music Theory in the United Arab Emirates.  She struggles with a learning disability called Dyspraxia, which affects her ability to sequence and process problems.  If a question is posed slightly differently to the way she has learnt it she will see it as a new problem rather than a version of what she has just learnt.

Like with many disabilities we are blessed with gifts too and my daughter has been blessed with an amazingly musical ear.  She is a gifted pianist, can read music, plays very well by ear and intuitively understands music, but struggles to come to grips with the more technical theory side of things.  She needs repetitive explanations so she can commit it to her long term memory otherwise she forgets it and many of the theory questions make no sense to her.

Obviously her teacher is not always able give her what she needs within the limits of a class situation and I personally have no music background.  We found your tutorials an extremely valuable learning aid for her because she could play what she was struggling with over and over again without feeling stupid or frustrating her teacher and classmates with constant questions relating to her inability to grasp what she was being taught.  She has a different style of learning and your tutorials and simple explanations which she can play over and over again fit her needs exactly.

Her understanding of music theory has increased and improved dramatically and it has made a huge difference to her self esteem since she has begun using your aids!   She used to go through all your lessons before answering her class work  and as a result was a lot more relaxed in her music class lessons because she felt she was able to keep up and knew if she didn't quite get something she could find the answers in your online lessons.  In some cases, because of your lessons she was even ahead which is ideal for S------- because then she feels she has something to give in a lesson and can feel like a valuable member of the class.

Do you do anything similar for grades 5 to 8?  I am desperately trying to find something to augment my daughters class work.  Her music school in Dubai is very understanding, but in most cases where there are challenging learning disabilities it helps to find something to augment the children's studies and your downloads were perfect for this purpose.  If you personally have nothing available for us do you know of anything else that does similar.  Your combination of visual and auditory explanations that she could play over and over again were perfect!

You probably never considered where your online tutorials would be used, but believe me they were a Godsend for my daughter!

Thank you!

Kind regards,

EVM.

Sheila and Stephen have now finished all the main modules for grades 1 to 5. There is one more to come on "Instruments of the Orchestra" then we will go back and re-record all the Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 videos in widescreen and HD!  It's a 'labour of love'!
