About Sheila's videos
Sheila's videos are supplied as .wmv files suitable for playing in many media players including Windows Media Player. The duration can be anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the content. A Broadband Internet connection will be required for downloading; especially some of the new high definition, widescreen files which are close to a gigabyte.
How to download them:
On completing and paying for your purchase you will receive two emails. The first of these will be a receipt; this should arrive immediately. The second may take up to 5 minutes to receive although it usually arrives a few seconds later. Our server will prepare your download(s) and assign each of them a special download link created just for you. These links will be in this second email.
When you click the links:
What happens next depends to some extent on your computer type, operating system, what email system you are using and your Web browser.
If you see a dialogue box something like this indicating you can either "Save or Open?" obviously choose [Save] or [Save File] and pick a place on your computer hard drive to save the video(s) so you can keep them and watch them as many times as you wish.
Many browsers and email clients also allow you to click the links in the email with your right mouse button and choose "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." from a menu that appears - these should both work fine - go ahead and do that!
If Windows Media Player starts playing the video. If this happens automatically, what you need to do is stop it playing and save the file instead. This is what you do; let the video start playing then click the Media Player [Pause] button. (If you cannot see a menu at the top of the Media Player window showing [File] [View] [Play] [Tools] [Help] - hold down the Ctrl key and press 'M' this should bring up the Menu.)
Then, using the Media Player menu, choose [File] [Save As . . .] . Your file will now be saved instead of playing. You should see a progreess bar while this is happening. Once the download is complete and you have the video safely stored, close Media Player and click the next video link (if you have one) and so on.
For Apple Macintosh Users
Apple Macintosh users may not already have a suitable player for .WMV files. However, you can download one, free, from this link. We don't use Apple machines ourselves but we have it on good authority that you should be able to Ctrl+Click on the links (i.e. hold down the 'Ctrl' key while you click) then choose "Download Linked File", "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." from the menu that appears. You can then choose a place to save them on your hard drive
For Android OS Users
If you're using an Android-based tablet or other device you may need to download a player than handles .WMV files. We have 'MX Player' on our Android Tablet and it works superbly. It's free and already has over 10,000,000 users. Here's the link you need at the Google Play Store.
Important
It's really important that you don't just watch the videos by clicking the links and watching them there and then. If you do this, a fresh copy is called from our server every time you watch a video. You won't be able to "skip though" the content and, more importantly, you won't be able to watch them at all after the download period expires! Do make sure you are saving the videos to your own PC, not just watching them from our server. After all - you've bought them - you should have them to keep! Email us if you're having problems saving them, we're here to help and we haven't had a failure yet!
Problems Downloading? No Emails Arrived?
If you have any problems, or by any chance you've registered with a non-valid email address, or you made a mistake typing your email address, or indeed, if you just simply can't wait, this is what to do:
Return to Sheila's Shop Homepage and log in with the email address you originally signed up with, and your password. Click on [Your Account] then [Order History] then on your [order number] on the left. You will find your download links on the left hand side of this page. From here on, follow the same process as descrbed in "When you click the Links:" above.
Time and Download Limits:
You have 7 days to download your purchases and you can have up to 5 tries - just in case you encounter any internet connection problems. You could also download a copy to each of two or more of your own PCs if you wish - that's fine by us, just don't give copies away to other people please, Sheila has priced tham at a level everybody can afford.
Saving Sheila's videos
As explained above, the download time runs out after 7 days, so it is your responsibility to make sure you have the videos safely saved on your own hard drive or other storage. We strongly recommend you copy the videos to a CD or a DVD data disk so that, in case of a hard disk crash (or simply the purchase of a new computer) your videos are safely stored. Try not to save the videos in just one place - make sure you have them backed-up somewhere safely. Of course, should you run out of time before you've downloaded your videos, just drop us an email and we'll reset the timer for you with pleasure.
Replacing lost videos
As we have now have a few hundred customers, we are discovering a problem we did not anticipate. Videos sometimes become lost or erased due to not being backed-up; not being copied to a new or replacement computer; hard disk failures, and so on. As explained above, we strongly advise you to ensure the videos you buy from us are saved securely or backed up for safe keeping.
However, we don't want you to lose the videos you bought, so what we plan to do is as follows. Drop us an email and tell us what you lost and and roughly when you originally bought the videos. Once we've traced your original order(s) and verified what you bought, rather than reinstate the links in emails you probably discarded at the time, we will set up and send you a voucher code to "buy" the same videos again. You can then visit Sheila's Shop, "purchase" the videos again and use the voucher code in full payment. You will then receive the usual emails containing new download links and you simply 'serve yourself' to the videos as you did originally.
Licences for Music Teachers and Schools
Music teachers and teachers in schools are respectfully reminded that purchases of Sheila's videos and sheet music are licenced for the personal use of the purchaser only. Sheila's videos, sheet music and any other products may not be copied, given to, lent to, rented to, sold on to, or shown to others either singly or in groups. What we're saying is, you can't buy a single copy of any of Sheila's videos and use it to teach your pupils or classes. That wouldn't be fair. However, there is a solution.
Some music teachers and schools have found it advantageous to Licence Sheila's videos. This can be done for a one-off flat fee per module for use anywhere in the school for it's staff and pupils in perpetuity, or - more cost effectively - an annual feel per module made available to pupils. Such arrangenments are negotiated individually and depend on the number of pupils in the school, and the proportion taking music lessons, studying Music Theory, etc. Assurances will be required that videos, documents, sheet music and any other Sheila Joynes products will not be copied outside the school. Contact us to discuss the options - there's only the two of us, we're very flexible and we'll certainly find an arrangement that suits us both.
